Quarry No. one
Dural NSW 2022
The project involved a blend of alterations and additions to an existing home situated in dense bushland. The brief included adapting new spaces within and attached to the existing built form as well as creating an interesting entry element to elevate the pre existing deeply recessed front entry. A new 3000 bottle capacity below ground wine cellar provides another unique space for contemplation.
While the site was blessed with an abundance of lush native bushland, it provided an added level of complexity to the project due to a bushfire attack level of flame zone, the highest risk level possible.
The unique structure and forms encountered along the new entry way seduce the visitors eye and provide weather protection upon arrival. Designed as a modular collection of awnings that would navigate the existing irregular curved garden bed, suspended concrete counterweights provide movement as they sway gently in the breeze echoing the rustling leaves of the giant gums overhead.
