Cottage
Galston NSW 2023
A contemporary interpretation of the humble country cottages that resonates strongly throughout the semi rural districts in Sydney’s north western suburbs established by the Fagans and Wardels soon after white settlement.
Courageous and trusting clients were instrumental in allowing the design to take full advantage of the unique setting with uninterupted northery apsect toward the ‘goat track’ road frontage. The result is a collection of public and private spaces all connected via a central brick spine that draws you in from the moment you enter and uses different size apertures to subcontiously control movement away from the private zones.
The circulation spine and its various openings are design to draw in light and breeze and accommodates a high degree of permeability that encourages the filtering and distribution of view, light and ventilation throughout.
The spaces and materials are combined with a modest and robust material palette that echo the language of traditional local vernacular.
A comfortable home that engages with its surrounding context. Only possible with great clients. Thanks a bunch P & D for being so wonderful.
